Pinks All Out - Rockingham N.C. April 6th and 7th 2007.

Before SEZ#8, about two weeks before my brother Jerry called me and said lets enter the PINKS All Out competition in April at the Rock. I said okay, and we could tune the car to be consistant. I signed up for it and after SEZ#8 rushed to get the little Z car ready. We added more safety equipment like a fuel cell steel bulk head, a flywheel shield, and other odds and ends. I worked every night after work for the two weeks before the event. Luckily we already had most of our stuff packed from SEZ#8.

I would like to thank Steve Wilson for letting us borrow his big tow van again, and Mark for letting us borrow his dual tandem trailer.

It was an experience for sure. We never have participated in an event of this magnitude. I was just amazed. They original asked for 300 cars to compete in the range of 9, 10, 11, and 12 second cars, they had at least 351 cars. We were in the 9 second range mid to low. We arrived Friday at about 12:30 and the gates were already open. We had to go through three check points. 1st one was tech - we passed, 2nd to sign our life away - forms, 3rd to make sure all was done and to have the forms witnessed and picture taken for the event.

We met up with our friends who entered as well Jerry Boatwright with his Clean looking 1964 Chevy II Nova, Nitrous assisted Nova and Danny Backman with his clean 1972 model big block 454 Chevelle SS.

We made a pass about 3:30pm, it was about 80 degrees with some wind. Jerry took the car for a warm up drive and entered staging. There were so many cars in staging by the time he made it to the line the battery was drained and we were running about 200 degrees temperature. Had to pull off to the side and let it cool.

Our 1st pass on Friday was a 9.56 @ 140.62 mph with a 60 ft. time of 1.39.

Below is the video:

We were all set, car was in the numbers we wanted a mid 9 pass. Hopefully a lot of cars would be in this bracket and the Pinks crew would choose this class.

Left our car and tools at the track and left around 9:00pm to head to our motel. Went out to eat and to get some sleep before the big event. We brought our boy's with us. Jerry brought his oldest son Jake and I took my son Johnathon to the event.

We arrived back at the track at 7:00am and proceeded in getting the little Z car ready. Charged the battery, added fuel etc.... We had to wait for roll call. They announced for car numbers to come to staging in the 8 lanes. Cars 1 - 50 staging lanes 1 and 2 and so on. We were car number 161.

They started shortly after 8:00am, it was cold around 40 degrees and windy. They finally called our number around 9:30am and we proceeded to staging. This time I towed Jerry up using the 4 wheeler.

1st pass on Saturday was a 9.40 @ 143.25 mph with a 60 ft. time of 1.37. We were still off our 60 ft. time, I guess the slicks have had enough. Only have about 20 passes on the little 28x9 slicks.

Below is the video:

Had to wait for roll call again, this pass Rich Christensen would flag the cars off the starting line. Also times would not be given out. You can see Rich flagging us off. This prevents Sand Bagging.

Below is the video:

We waited for the decision to be made for the 16 cars that were going to be picked. We figured it would be a 10.50 - 11:00 second range ( so many cars in this bracket ). They chose the 10:50 class. They were considering our class but we were within 10th of seconds apart and the 10:50 class was within 100ths of a second.

They did ask our group to make an exhibition pass which we did. We ran against a Camaro using Nos which was running in the 9's also.

We ran a 9.43 @ 142.45 mph with a 60 ft. time of 1.37.

Below is the video:

Not bad, we should be a bracket car as consistent as we are. Do know for sure we need to replace the slicks, 60 foot time was off from a 1.32. We held our own.......

We will probably be entering the Pinks all Out in Bristol Tenn. July 21st or maybe Alabama in October 26th, 27th. Maybe both, we will see how it goes.

I was searching for Pinks all out on the web and found some pictures from Rockingham and one of them was the actual time board, and you can see my brothers picture just below the mid 9 second mark, thought it was interesting. Who knows we might be on TV, making a pass......

I had a friend that took some more video's at the Pinks all out. Below are the movies. The first one is of our Friend Jerry Boatwright and his Super Clean 1964 Chevy II. Don't be fooled of it's stock appearance. It Runs and Runs Good.

This is a video of our friend that was at Pinks as well. His name is Danny Backman in his Super Clean 1972 Chevelle SS 454 cu.

This is another video or our last exhibition pass, Taken from a different view. I like what the announcer said at the end. The Datsun getting it Done.......

Here are a couple more pictures taken from pinks:

I would also like to thank my son Johnathan Wenzell and Jake Barker for listening to the radio to let us know when out group of numbers were called for staging and for filming the video footage.

Until next time..........
